Jersey Side: Journalism or Amateur?

NJ.com Spelling

Catching up on my blogging, I took note of a piece at Enlighten-New Jersey. It seems like Jersey Side has taken Enlighten to task over a couple minor things. Ever since Shabe linked to eCache (it was called 28J back then), I took note that he has a less than thorough understanding of what he reads. When he linked, he didn’t know why I used the pseudonym Eugene Simonet. Forget that it was answered in the FAQ at the time. Oh well . . .

Anyhow, one of the things Shabe has taken Enlighten to task over is a misspelling. To Shabe, his oomph is deflated when a mistake is made.

But somehow for me at least some of the oomph gets sucked out of it when you can’t spell …

It is easy to pick on misspellings. While I think spelling is important (as is grammar), blogs are less formal and an obvious misspelling is nothing to pick on. This superiority Shabe exudes lessens his stature to this reader. And if that wasn’t enough, isn’t it just an example of the pot calling the kettle black?
