First Negroni

First Negroni

The cocktail space is quite fond of the Negroni. I’ve never had one. I made my first this evening. Ha, I used my rocks glass to do so. 😉

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. gin

  • 1 oz. Campari

  • 1 oz. sweet vermouth

Directions

  • In a rocks glass, combine the gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth.
  • Add ice. Stir for for 20 seconds or so to chill.
  • Spritz with orange peel.
  • Garnish with orange peel.

I used Bombay Sapphire, Carpana Antica sweet vermouth, and Campari.

I’ve heard that the first time drinking this may present a bitter taste. I get that. I will say this is not a cocktail that bowls me over. From what I heard, one needs to continue drinking these to build the love of it. I liken that to smoking cigarettes. We shall see

It’s interesting, I am not a gin drinker, but I am rather certain it is the Campari that is providing the bitterness. I have an entire bottle of this stuff, so I hope I find a niche that provides more satisfaction.

It is not horrible, but it isn’t something that I am falling in love with.

Despite its supposed low ABV, I am feeling it before the first cocktail is finished.

Also blogged on this date . . .

  1. Had a second one. I don’t think ths one is going to win me over.

It occurs to me that much like cooking, I am approaching cocktails by following directions and beginning with the classics. I think that is what this year is going to be: run through the classic cocktails and figure out what I like.
