The Nick and Nora glass is credited to the movie The Thin Man. Well, I thought I would break my glasses in tonight while watching the movie and enjoying a new cocktail: the Sidecar.

I tasted one of these the other evening at Total Wine. I used the more traditional recipe from the IBA.

Recipe from IBA

Ingredients

  • 50 ml cognac

  • 20 ml Cointreau

  • 20 ml fresh lemon juice

Directions

  • Wet rim of cocktail glass with lemon. Roll with white sugar. Place in freezer.
  • Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker, shake well with ice, strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

I used A. De Fussigny Selection Cognac that Sean, the teacher from the other evening recommended. This is the first bottle of cognac I have ever purchased.

Many folks speak of the the tartness of this drink. I understand that. The sugar rim is needed to balance the drink. The other evening a quart-ounce of simple syrup was added. It was decidedly sweeter than what I drank this evening. I have seen many recipes online that do the same. I am willing to give that a try, but I really don’t have an issue with this cocktail as it is built now.

This will flow more at 3-Cubed. Cheers!
